Welcome to Global Work Watch
Global Work Watch is a blog about the world’s workers and the ways they are marshaled and managed.
Through weekly entries, it aims to capture and comment on the most important and intriguing happenings in the world of work, employees and organizations.
I will examine issues in particular countries and regions, as well as look at the extent to which people throughout the globe are forming a single, interconnected labor force of more than 3 billion people.
As a journalist writing about business and technology for more than a decade, I have been fascinated with both the light and dark sides of the global economy. In my view, companies and their innovations can be admirable (despite the criticism they sometimes receive). I’m curious about the best ways to channel people’s talents. And I believe a more integrated international economy can allow those in poorer places to enjoy new choices and a better life.
At the same time, I’m concerned about the way trade and corporate trends can work against democratic principles while fueling inequality and insecurity.
Among the topics I hope to cover in this blog is the way employees, corporations and nations are working to mend—not end—the global economy.
I look forward to hearing your views on these matters along the way. Global Work Watch will work best when it includes many perspectives.
