Among them is this one: "Checklist for Developing a Training Program." Although it was written with owners and managers of small manufacturers in mind, the list contains a number of ideas that could help HR professionals at companies that do not have a formal training function. The information is categorized by titles such as "What Is the Goal of Training?" Advice in that category recommends that "the goal should be spelled out before developing the plan for the training program." The category "What Does the Employee Need to Learn?" includes such thought points as "Are there certain skills and techniques which trainees must learn?" and "Will the employee need instruction about departments other than his or her own?"
